About this tool

India has more than 19,000 active pincodes spread across every district, hill station, island, and remote village. They power everything from delivery routing to KYC forms to election rolls. Most online forms validate against a pincode, so getting it right saves you hours.

This tool gives you fast lookup with no signup. We start by checking a curated index of frequently searched pincodes, which covers most metro and tier-1 city areas. For anything we do not know, we ask India Post directly and show you the official answer.

Frequently asked

What is a pincode?

Pincode stands for Postal Index Number. It is a 6-digit code introduced by India Post in 1972 to make sorting faster. The first digit indicates the region (1 for North, 4 for West, 5 for South, and so on), the next two digits identify the sub-region and sorting district, and the last three identify the specific post office.

How accurate is this list?

We show curated common pincodes instantly from a local index. For uncommon pincodes, we fall back to the official India Post API in real time. Both stay in your browser. We never log queries.

Does this work offline?

The instant results from the curated index work offline once the page loads. The live India Post fallback needs an internet connection.

Why does the same pincode have multiple post offices?

A single pincode can cover several adjacent neighbourhoods, each with its own branch or sub post office. The Head Post Office is the main one. Sub Post Offices and Branch Post Offices serve smaller areas.

Can I search for a colony or apartment building?

Try the colony or area name first. If that does not match, search for the nearest landmark, road, or sector. Apartment-level addresses are not part of the postal index.

Will my searches be tracked?

Curated lookups stay entirely in your browser. The fallback request to the public India Post API is anonymous and we do not log anything on our end.
